I posted this link on FB, cause people are going nuts that LA isn't under the cap, lol. They pay attention to who comes in, but ignore all the people that went out this season.
Ben: you're gonna have to work overtime to clarify all of this for us... my only question: do we have enough left for a CB not named leonardo? or was that it?
Team Tucker: You might be cool, but I am ZERO cool. Foo

" a look at the salaries shed by the Galaxy in the past 2 ½ months gives credence to notion it has some room to work with:
Donovan Ricketts (traded) $170,000
Chris Birchall (contract expired) $144,000
Gregg Berhalter (retired) $96,000
Frankie Hejduk (option declined) $96,000
Juninho (loan terminated) $90,000
Jovan Kirovski (retired) $84,000
Increase in salary cap (from $2.675 million to $2.81 million): $135,000
Total of above six salaries and cap increase: $731,000"

Official confirmation: Juninho on loan again for 2012, Leonardo signed on a free transfer
Note: various articles mentioned there was no loan fee for Juninho and Sao Paulo would also cover his entire salary. Until the MLS players union announces the new numbers or we get some kind of confirmation (by the G's, Grant Wahl, Steven Goff, Nick Green, Scott French, Adam Serrano & SBI etc) I'll simply go with his 2011 salary.
As long as MLS doesn't release the allocation amounts for each team, it's always gonna be just speculation and guessing.
G's preseason Roster
1 GK Nick Noble
2 D Todd Dunivant
4 D Omar Gonzalez (injury list)
5 D Sean Franklin
6 M Bryan Jordan
7 F Robbie Keane (DP + INT)
8 M Marcelo Sarvas (INT)
9 F Chad Barrett
10 F Landon Donovan (DP)
11 F Pat Noonan
12 GK Josh Saunders
14 F Edson Buddle
15 M Dan Keat (INT)
16 M Hector Jimenez
17 F Adam Cristman
18 F Mike Magee
19 M Juninho (INT) (LOAN)
20 D A.J. DeLaGarza
21 M Dustin McCarty
22 D Leonardo (INT)
23 M David Beckham (DP + INT)
24 GK Brian Perk
25 M Rafael Garcia
26 M Michael Stephens
27 D Justin Davies
28 D Ryan Thomas
29 D Andrew Boyens (INT or Greencard)
30 M Paolo Cardozo (INT)
31 D Tommy Meyer
32 F Jack McBean (Homegrown)
33 M Jose Villarreal (Homegrown?)
34 M Kyle Nakazawa
35 D Bryan Gaul
37 M Stephen Posa
39 M Kenney Walker
So, IF Juninho is coming back, what is the salary impact? They will not be paying any loan fees.
Last year he made 100k.
I've read somewhere Sao Paulo might cover his entire salary as well as not demanding any loan fee.
Until we know more, simply assume 2011.
Birchy not being offered a new contract has to have come on the heels of locking up Juninho for another season.
Could be.
I however think a INT CB was the real target and didn't work out for whatever reason.
Juninho's returns to me seems more of a pieces came together (by chance, like him not getting any minutes back in Sao Paulo)
Also the released Supplemental Draftie Gorenzvaig from Brazil freed up another INT slot.
But hey I'm certainly not complaining

no allocation money amounts released by MLS, always gonna remain a guess at best.

my gut feeling says no, however after yesterday, who knows.
If Juninho really costs zero for the G's like some pointed out, then maybe, though likely not an international, unless the G's trade for such a spot.

true, however don't forget the other factors like the raises and reductions.
raises
a) MLS Cup bonus/raise
b) the regular annual increase
c) re-signings like Franklin etc.
d) Keane now costs 335 and not just half of it
reductions
a) 2nd re-entry draft (Noonan etc)
b) re-negotiated (Christman?)
I'd be amazed if Leonardo wasn't going to be our answer for Omar.
I tend to agree, but don't like it at all, as I didn't rate pre-injury Leonardo at all.

I wouldn't. He's still recovering from that knee injury.I'd be amazed if Leonardo wasn't going to be our answer for Omar.
Unless Bruce has something else up his sleeve, either Meyer or Boyens are pairing alongside AJ.

Meyer is scrawny and definitely need to add some muscle.
Isaac: So when I told you guys we were on it, I meant to say we're on the motherfucker, go back in there and relax...

Not a secret concering Boyens, but Meyer has room to improve and grow.At the scrimmage Meyer looked better than Boyens but both were pretty "meh". MLS Serviceable at best.
Meyer is scrawny and definitely need to add some muscle.
Besides, expecting either one of those guys to fill Omar's shoes is a pretty tall order.
Still think we need damn Colombian in central defense... they are all the rage in MLS right now.

Yeah, maybe not on opening day, but they deliberately acquired him again and we know Bruce was playing him tons before he got hurt and enabled us to win a double.

Possibly... although I think you are wrong and he was acquired for depth.Yeah, maybe not on opening day, but they deliberately acquired him again and we know Bruce was playing him tons before he got hurt and enabled us to win a double.
He's been with the G's since 2010 and has managed to play a total of 17 games... a good indication that he's a bit on the fragile side.
It doesn't seem like Bruce to roll the dice on him again and gift him a starting CB spot coming off a major knee injury.

With Omar hurt, his chances of leaving after recovery have dropped by a large margin. He'll need another season to prove he's the same Omar. Obviously these guys would probably be temporary. If Bruce can create a rotation, and show that all three are viable we stand to make some money or have valuable trade bait right? I can already think of a few MLS sides looking for CB's, or who will be needing decent options at CB.
I guess this all depends on how well these guys do. It's really strange thinking about how much depth we've had at almost every position for the past 2 seasons. If the team can stay healthy, I don't think we'll be seeing BJ at RB anymore.

Very good read in dissecting the lack of a conspiracy. Bruce is a smart dude who's pulling all the right strings and getting a little luck. Not sure if this has already been posted
http://msn.foxsports...n-soccer-020812
Of course, you could say the luck was of the you-make-your-own-luck variety. LA's got a good thing going and people want in on it while it's hot. LA might not be Barcelona but it's the closest thing to it in MLS. The league's top coach, good facilities, marquee city, an owner too back up the manager's desires. So maybe it was lucky that Buddle couldn't land anywhere in Europe but when his options ran out, he didn't hesitate to come back. Same for Juninho. If only Omar hadn't gone down...
We're gonna finish 7th and go out in the 1st round.
Oh, but we're gonna score 104 goals!
