Reading about this Jata kid makes me want him to succeed. He came to the draft, was the last player in the hall to be picked, waited HOURS to be picked, and his speech "stole the show" according to Ives. Via the Fire site...

Amazingly, Jata was still in the draft hall to the end, and came to the podium after he was announced, sporting a new Fire scarf. After a long speech when he admitted waiting that long to hear his name was difficult, yet promising he'd try and turn some heads and surprise some people, he did acknowledge he had been talking for some time.

"But I hope it's OK," he said, "because I've been sitting there an awfully long time waiting."

His late appearance and speech actually drove some observers to tears.

Anybody at the draft see this speech?

Here are some highlights of him:

I interned in the FO for a little while and trust me they are so dumb had they payed off the refs they probably would have presented them one of those huge checks during halftime on the field.

I was at the draft. I had initially planned to leave after the 3rd round but decided to stick it out one more round and Jata's speech absolutely made it worth it. His speech brought the house down as officials from every team applauded him. A few gave standing ovations.

Got a chance to talk with Jata after he got fed through media row, and the kid was just on Cloud 9. I really hope he can make this team, and make it better, because from what I gathered from him, he's a great kid and would be valued on any team. A really good story so far.
