#1313716 Offseason changes thread

Posted by Thunderbolt7 on 07 November 2017 - 01:12 PM

Waiting on pins and needles for the announcement detailing our reinforcements for next year: academy kid #1, academy kid #2, USL guy #1, etc...

I'm cynical. There will be no opening of Dietrich's Scrooge McDuck-esque money bin; Jesse will look at the situation and conclude the best thing for his continued employment is to try and squeeze another year out of the same aging core. If he's smart, he lines up a job for himself in Europe this summer and leaves Armas to deal with the mess.

The downward trend continues, 60 points to 57 to 50 to 45ish. During the year, MLS announces a memorandum of understanding between the league and Red Bull GmbH that after Mateschitz's passing the executive that succeeds him will allow the company to continue operating the franchise for the foreseeable future. A resurgent Scum team pips us for the final playoff spot on "Decision Day" as I contemplate walking into traffic.

Sacha is my hero of the game, he realized he was playing like crap and Jesse couldn't bear the thought of removing him, so he started a fistfight and took himself out along with Jozy.

Savvy veteran move, wish Reyna had that in his repertoire a decade ago.

At least we've ensured an unproductive first leg for Toronto...

Fuck me, do you have to show the goddamn Krafts?

#1299767 Petke coached RSL

Posted by Thunderbolt7 on 10 April 2017 - 12:15 PM

At the presser Petke was asked, "What is your offensive philosophy?"  His response was, "to score goals."

His team scores 3 in a blizzard, we've scored 5 all year. I'll take that over screwing with formations that move your best players out of the center of the pitch, where they do MVP-level work.

This is MLS, not the Bundesliga. Sometimes all you need is a battering ram to knock down the door instead of trying to sneak around the side over and over again. Seems like a lesson this team would have learned after the past two postseasons and all the failed tournament bids.

If you attend this game as an away fan in a Metro jersey, from a distance people are going assume you're rooting for the home team.

I find that thought incredibly depressing.

#1294217 Lots of other teams are signing DPs

Posted by Thunderbolt7 on 29 January 2017 - 10:55 PM

There's nothing wrong with waiting until the summer to see if you need to acquire a DP-caliber player. The team's issue is consistently poor play in tournaments, not during the regular season. There may be a slow start and one or more slumps, but barring widespread crippling injuries this team will be playoff caliber (not a high bar to set, honestly) without any further additions.

If they're smart, they use the Open Cup as a litmus test to gauge the efficacy of this group and/or whatever tactical changes Marsch has in mind. If they lose to Philly (or this season's reasonable 5th/6th seed equivalent) in their first match again, then you go out and find a difference maker.

If they fail to make any changes in such a scenario, then everyone should feel free to set RBA aflame. That's a lot of branching logic to get through first, though.

#1293163 Dax traded for $400k allocation

Posted by Thunderbolt7 on 16 January 2017 - 10:06 PM

We're not signing anyone. We just ran out of funny money, aka Garber bucks, to pay down Sacha or Veron.

Yeah........use the GAM/TAM/allocation bucks to get the DP's off the books and with no DP's to pay for, instant savings for the redbull mothership.

Someone re-assure me I'm wrong, before I start typing "redbull out" crap

They get the benefit of the doubt for the time being, but if all they have to show for themselves are more academy signings a month from now, I fully expect pitchforks and torches marching toward the gates of Red Bull Arena.

Who am I kidding, anyone who's been around long enough to be fed up with all the crap is too old and tired to cause any trouble, and most fans of recent vintage think everything the Austrians do is just swell. RED BULL SPONSORS MY BOY NADESHOT BRAH!

Get me some guys who have stones and WILL a team to the final.

We had a guy, a Frenchman. He willed us past DC when everyone else aside from his old national team buddy played scared. Did all he could to get us to the brink, but his star running mate came up a little short in Foxboro.

No one like that is walking through the door anytime soon.

#1287588 When cost-cutting goes too far

Posted by Thunderbolt7 on 19 September 2016 - 02:43 PM

We can debate the merits of Austrian austerity, but I think we can all agree that when the club is so cheap that they can't even afford to stock small c's for the guys with Irish last names, it's a bit much:

I also don't know exactly what Collin's salary situation is, but if we're on the hook for his full $500,000 next season, then I'd rather someone else have him.

Paul Tenorio said with certainty earlier this year that Orlando was only subsidizing Collin's salary for the rest of the current season. He's not in Orlando anymore, but he's still connected, so I tend to trust what he has to say.

Zizzo is garbage. How is he a starter?

It'd be one thing if he was an offensive marvel, but he makes terrible decisions with the ball and lacks accuracy passing. During the Open Cup match, Marsch and Armas spent the entire first half cajoling Zizzo into the right defensive positions. When he was across the field in the second half and didn't have their voices in his ear, he was victimized.
