#1317038 2018 MLS SuperDraft

Posted by regulator on 18 January 2018 - 02:15 PM

at this point we might as well just draft the youngest people available in the draft (regardless of position), stick them in RBII for 2 years, and hope for the best.

#1317021 Who is the captain now?

Posted by regulator on 18 January 2018 - 10:02 AM

has to be Robles. He's the only true leader we have left on the team. I don't buy the argument that keepers can't be captains.  Guys like Iker and Kahn were exemplary captains).

If not Robles, then BWP simply because he leads by example, even if he's not very vocal. Plus he's the "elder statesman" on the squad.

Now this would be pretty cool...  Wish they did more on that end.  Dunno if stuff like that is even discussed at those supporter's group meetings but that would be something worth asking about.  Even for stuff in the future.

Can you imagine the supporters going to Newark airport to greet an Argentinean player. They start singing "Dale metro". Then some other supporters decide to sing something else and maybe break an airport chair. Lol.

#1316972 Ignacio Pussetto rumor

You hit the nail in the head. Another nothing news. It's the off-season.

Our "big sister" club RB Leipzig agreed to sell Naby Keita to Liverpool this coming July 2018. However, this deal (along with the transfer fee) was announced way back in August of 2017...so it's not entirely unheard of.

They (RBNY and Huaracan) might be deep in negotiations already for all we know.  Or it could just be an unfounded rumor. We just don't know.

of the people currently on the roster, I'd say Keita would be the designated corner kick taker. He whips in a good corner with pace.

For free kicks, I think Felipe will be the one to take them on goal if Kemar winds up leaving.

If you had to choose one away game, Monteral in September or Toronto in July?

Montreal! It's been on my list of places to visit for awhile - it should still be nice weather in September. Plus it's labor day weekend so you can make a mini trip out of it.

I don't think we are really replacing Kljestan though one player. Him not being here allows for new formations which im hoping means goals from different parts of the field. Want to see a formation with Rivas/Kaku - BWP - Royer up top somehow.

exactly this. expect to see us try the 4-4-2 again next year. remember, we shied away from it once it was evident that sacha was useless anywhere in this formation:

-----bwp---rivas

royer-------------------keita

--------felipe--adams

This is a dangerous front 6. If Rivas turns out to be a bust, you can always revert to the 3-3-3-1

----------bwp

royer----felipe----keita

----------adams

What will hurt us here more than losing sacha is losing Kemar.  In the 3-3-3-1 , we'll need strong wing play from our outside backs. If Kemar goes, we have a huge problem back there.

Good riddance. It's so infuriating sitting in the south ward and hearing such dissonance mostly due to their stupid drums.

Don't want to compromise by singing Spanish songs? Well sing as much as you want - doubt your voices will carry without the incessant drumming during the rest of the south ward songs.

We can have the biggest transfer budget in the league, and it will still be an embarrassing joke to tell strangers that you support a team who's top priority is to sell soda.

Maybe I hang out around the wrong people, but literally 0 people that I've ever told about RBNY care who the owner is. The only place it comes up ad nauseam is on internet forums.

pretty accurate...

He's fast, but off all the guys in the Argentine league, could have stolen anyone from Boca, Independiente, or Lanús.. And they get him?!?!

So close yet so far away smh...

Hoping for the best, fingers crossed, but I think they picked up the wrong Argentine.. And they overpaid

Honestly, if they overpaid it means that ownership is taking initiative to build a solid roster. If we were content to play moneyball, there's no way we would overpay

Seriously. This board is a bit ridiculous with the "anything ownership does is literally Hitler" shtick. Assuming the transfer goes through,  can't wait to see what the narrative shifts to.

#1315060 Sacha to somewhere

Sasha's a solid player, no question.  That said, I am curious how he won the MLS assist title 2 years in a row. I just don't that prolific set-up guy when I watch him play.

Question...   What counts as a assist?  Is there one assist tallied on a goal or can there be multiple assists awarded?

To go further, assuming multiple assists can be awarded, is there a breakdown of how many are primary assists vs secondary?

i think they count secondary assists as well, which i think is dumb.  i dont know if they break out primary vs secondary

#1315059 Sacha to somewhere

Posted by regulator on 13 December 2017 - 05:03 PM

my guess is:

Sacha goes to LA

- We don't replace him right away

- people get pissed on the boards

We start Tyler Adams in the Sacha role

- He has another strong half  year

We sell Tyler Adams to Europe (RB Leipzig?) over the summer transfer window for a big sum

- Since he's a homegrown, and there are supposed to be rule changes that make selling homegrowns more favorable to the selling team

We use the Sacha $$ + the Tyler Adams $$ to get a new focal point of the attack

- will be an established player, "right" age (24-27), good experience from big leagues (i.e. not scandinavia or central america)

- he has a subpar 1st few months, people get pissed on the boards

- he turns it around in the following year, we win the cup

if you subscribe to the same logic that brought us the Dax trade (i.e. that it's better to sell a player a year too early than a year too late), then this proposed Sacha trade is a great deal. He's already shown signs of regression in terms of his physical abilities. Plus, he hasn't really been putting in a good set piece in awhile. Hell, he can't even be counted on to take PKs anymore.

Personally, I was ok with the Dax trade assuming it brought us someone worthwhile. I don't know the ins and outs of the cap system or cap situation, so the jury is still out on that one. However, between the Dax money and the Sacha money (which is supposed to be even higher than the Dax trade), PLUS the increased TAM....there is 0 reason for us not to have a shiny new attacking playmaker to lead us next year.

We've tried with our backbone and they just can't get it done. Now, we get to see what the new school holds for us.
