Jerry Buss died yesterday. The guy that brought us Showtime.
There was always this talk about the beautiful young women that he always had around him. I encountered that with my own eyes.
Years ago, I was in Vegas to watch a couple of fights. Just to age myself, I was watching Michael Carbajal defend his title and Jorge Paez trying to recover his. During the fight, I noticed a group of lovely young ladies sitting near ringside dressed in matching purple evening gowns.
After the fight, I stumbled out of the outdoor arena at Caesar's Palace and ran into these fine young specimens, all sitting about. I blurted out, "Hey, you girls are beautiful. Who are you?" They smiled and kind of looked at each other. "Wow. Where are you girls from?" A lovely blond smiled and pointed at my T-shirt. "We're from the Lakers." I said, "Really?! Wow." I looked at this stunning petite Asian girl and said, "You're beautiful." Then Jerry Buss showed up and said, "Okay, ladies, let's go." And they all got up and were herded toward a limo. It was Showtime, I guess.
Later, I saw a few of them at the tables with a variety of men, keeping them company, laughing, having fun. I didn't find the Asian one--pity. Not sure what the formal arrangement was that Jerry had with these lovelies, but they were eye-popping.
Rest in peace, Mr. Buss.

Inland Empire Local Legen John Harrelson finally succumbs.
Lots of illnesses, lost an eye, was dead flatlining twice. Saw this guy at a church carnival once, blew me away.
Something for the rock 'n rollers among us.
