Fuck that, I can't afford to buy their goods either... which is why I illegally download music and movies and buy from online computer outlets that charge half as much (or less) as Best Buy.

It's still a cool store to walk around in though and free money rules... maybe they can start playing HD broadcasts of Fire games on their HDTVs in the store instead of those nature shows or whatever they play

Where do you buy your stereos, TVs, etc from? I think the Fire could have gotten more from a more Mexican-oriented company, say La Preferida, for example, that is also looking to upstage US based Mexican food companies by taking away chunks of their white customers. It's all in how the negotiations go, and from what we know about Guppy's skills in that area....

I agree wholeheartedly. Without "Fire" on the red, and "Chicago" on the white, the stripe is useless.

Do ya think Guppy was/is stupid enough NOT to have called some of the major Mexican or Mexican-oriented firms and asked for an amount? I mean, I think myself and others were thinking along the lines of companies here and in Mexico that market specifically to Mexicans, but looking to expand their demographics and numbers here. Instead, we get an American company looking to expand into Mexico, where majority of workers can't afford their products anyway (electroics are a lot more expensive there than here, in case you didn't know, even at the Wal*Marts). I'm not sure this was such a good move by either our FO or Best Buy. IMHO, most Mexicans here already know about Best Buy, while most Mexicans there can't afford to buy their goods.

au contraire, theres a market for mexico theres a notable upper-class and siazable middle-class (by latin american standards), they're expanding the use of credit (Mainly by Wal-Mart and it's subsidiaries). Which is a completely new concept for the middle-class, trust me. If it takes all the money a kid makes in their afterschool job...they will get an iPod, even if it's just a shuffle. Also, some of those tens of billions of dollars sent in remittances is sure to make their way to buy Washing machines? Fridges, Stoves? Stuff that your up and coming family sees as a status symbol.
But theres no Best Buys in Mexico city (or at least hardly, any), theres other electronic stores that mostly sell non-branded TV's, flatscreens, PC's and mp3 players, the name escapes me but their yellow and red store marquee is ubiquitous.
You guys do realize that Wal-mart is the largest retailer and employer in Mexico right? I'm sure Best Buy knows what it's doing and isn't you know, just doing all of this on a whim.

I really don't understand what you mean, but it is late...could you rephrase this?
Also, you realize La Preferida is based in Chicago right, so do you mean...it would upstage other US based retailers??

Electronics are REALLY expensive (like twice as much) in Mexico as compared to here, and they are brand names. I was very surprised to discover that fact. Then I saw I saw the "easy credit" prices and lengths of payments, and was like "holy crap!" Cash remittances are one thing, and more and more it is ATMs and pre-paid Visas, but folks are also sending back the items themselves. Sit at O'hare term 5 at the McDonald's and watch the crowds and see what they are carrying for luggage to take back home. All I have to do is say "I'm gonna go down to Salamanca", and folks I used to be related to will ask me to take something for so-and-so and outside of clothes, photos, toys, etc, electronics are big. Store in Mexico: are you thinking of Bodega Aurrera (red, white, green?) They are owned by Wal*Mart. Sears used to (don't know if they still do) allow folks to pay for something here and their relatives could pick it up down there. Bought the suegra a washing machine like that. They'd even deliver if it was within range (for extra, of course).

Mexican food: I was speaking more along the lines of La Preferida versus El Paso or some such crap (and it is crap), not even counting the restaurant stuff you can buy off the shelf now, such as TGIF, On The Border, Taco Bell, etc. Notice where La Preferida is stocked: "ethnic foods aisle" vs where the "American" brand stuff is stocked. It's about the demographics of the companies' customers.

I'm gonna go down to Salamanca, methinks. Maybe pick up a pair of those size 10 Blanco signature indoor flats from Concord I can't seem to find or can't get a price on up here. They'll be cheaper in Leon, anyway.

True. LOL And maybe BestBuy wsn't even really thinking about Mexicans in Mexico as much as the demographic you just mentioned. Perhaps some of us assumed the sponsor would be a Mexican brand or something?

Guess I'm still upset it wasn't something more local, like L-P (I'd have bet the savings last month it was going to be them) or BEER NUTS!! Can you imagine?? Red and white "BEER NUTS" across the chest. Oh well, considering the sale of the team, and the negotiations that Guppy made, maybe "BestBuy" was rather appropriate. LOL I just keep getting the feeling he had a deal in his hands, and lost it, and had to settle for something at a lower amount. Not that that has ever happened with him, of course.

Yah, they've been planning this for a while, We opened in China last year, Mexico this year, and 2 stores in Puerto Rico as well... We're going global baby!

I can't agree with you guys on the free money. The money is paying to ruin our kits for a few years.

That being said, at least Best Buy is actually a company, and not run out of the back of someone's car like almost all the other sponsors of MLS teams.

Actually, when I heard Best Buy I automatically thought yellow = crew too.

But as for a recolored tag? Nice idea, but highly doubt it. The purpose of a sponsor is to get the logo noticed. Recoloring the tag takes away from brand familiarity, and blending it into the kit takes won't get their "ad" seen.

And I was all for the free money, til I found out we're not using any of it. Rad. Ives also said we're in the market for a second DP slot, but I don't know how we'll sign another one if we're not willing to spend some green.
