True. LOL And maybe BestBuy wsn't even really thinking about Mexicans in Mexico as much as the demographic you just mentioned. Perhaps some of us assumed the sponsor would be a Mexican brand or something?

Guess I'm still upset it wasn't something more local, like L-P (I'd have bet the savings last month it was going to be them) or BEER NUTS!! Can you imagine?? Red and white "BEER NUTS" across the chest. Oh well, considering the sale of the team, and the negotiations that Guppy made, maybe "BestBuy" was rather appropriate. LOL I just keep getting the feeling he had a deal in his hands, and lost it, and had to settle for something at a lower amount. Not that that has ever happened with him, of course.

meh, the mock-up looked ok. But I'd be suprised if that's what ends up on the jersey. As someone stated earlier, it's all about brand recognition--you take away their colours, badge style, and font, and you take away a good amount of recognizability.

I doubt its going to look bad. I just saw a mock up of it and it looks good to me. (No im not going to put it on the internet) I will confirm there will be no yellow on the jersey.

Man, we land a MAJOR corporate sponsor which will be paying us millions of dollars, its not the worst place in the world (I JUST used my gift cards from xmas to purchase a washer and drier from there), after people were whining about us not landing a sponsor.

The only strawman I can think of is that the team doesn't want to take a financial risk on a coach with no head coaching experience. There is a legitimate school of thought that puts more stock in the players talent than the managing talent. Of course, it makes less sense in a salary capped league, but its still a valid argument.

I think what is getting lost is that Andell offered Spencer more money, just not enough to justify the move.


Returning to the jersey, Ill wait for the design and the contract details, but free money=good. We could be sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds under the right terms for all I care.

Spencer said in the article that the Fire didn't offer him much more than what Houston was paying him. So, it was more, but not so much more that he was willing to uproot himself and his family to go to Chicago.

Honestly though, after the jersey we have had for the last two years, anything is an improvement. I'm not going to worry about it till they come out and I get a good look, if I worry about it at all.

Now, lets pick a head coach already and get on with it.

It's probably worth pointing out that it's in Best Buy's interest that the jersey with their name look as good and be as marketable as possible. That way it gets in the most numbers of hands and gets their name out there more. Also it's worth pointing out that, at least lately, the Fire guard their brand a lot better than they used to.

Anyhow, just something to think about.

HA-HA! I was there right before I stopped by your store with the bro-in-law. Small (the headquarters, not your store). I was surprised. Last year, I suggested that they should be a sponsor, even went so far as to send them an e-mail from their website through the "have a nutty idea?" link.

Liam, just because some folks are in a higher position does not mean they are more intelligent and know what to do with a jersey or team's identity. Think Adidas/Guppy, "Chicago Fire Soccer" sign on TP, and no flag jersey.

There are two issues being discussed in the thread, sponsor and shirt design, with a possibility of 4 outcomes: bad sponsor/bad design, great sponsor/bad design, bad sponsor/good design, and both great sponsors and design. I don;t have any issue with BestBuy being the sponsor other than it came completely out of left field from what we were led to believe (not being local). I care more about the jersey design than the sponsor.
