Let me begin by congratulating the US Women's National Team for bringing home the gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The two best teams in the world were matched up in the final, and the Americans did us proud.

Part in parcel with the enthusiasm from the woman's team performance and in recognition of the upcoming inaugural season of Woman's Professional Soccer (WPS) and the Chicago Red Stars, it is an honor to announce the formation of the Red Star Supporters. The Red Star Supporters is an interim organization that will serve to build a fan base for the Chicago Red Stars and women’s sports in the Chicagoland area, and help establish a permanent supporters group that will begin operations some time next year.

A board will be chosen from the initial membership and will begin establishing a database of potential supporters. Such a database will be used to distribute news and information on upcoming events and matches. In addition, the organization will raise funds through donations and sales of goods for future projects and charitable offerings.

Though we intend to work with Peter Wilt and the Chicago Red Stars in supporting the club, this organization is not directly associated with the club. The organization will be run and funded by its membership. In the same mindset, though we encourage members of Section 8 Chicago to become active members in the Red Star Supporters, we are not an organization under Section 8 Chicago, nor will we ask for any financial assistance from Section 8 Chicago. The two entities are distinct, though we intend to seek advice on day-to-day management of a supporter's organization, in order to sidestep the more common problems that befall new supporter's groups.

In the coming weeks, we will have contact information and a scarf design for pre-order. Until then, information on the Chicago Red Stars club can be found at http://www.womensprosoccer.com/chicago/ and http://womensprosoccer.ning.com/profiles/p...e=28w1cnlryiums.

Thank you,
Omar Shaker

Cool! Thx. Met w/US Soccer today re: the Sept. 20 USWNT vs. Ireland match at Toyota Park.

We agreed to have the Red Stars help with ticket sales, game ops and promotion. US Soccer agreed to allow Red Stars promotion at the game and to designate Section 134 as a standing, general admission supporters section.

Red Stars will offer a City of Chicago 3' x 5' flag, a Section 134 game ticket for Sept. 20 and a 2009 Section 134 supporters section season ticket (12 games) all for $117.

Package will go on sale next week some time.

We'll have three USWNT players allocated to the Red Stars the week prior to the 9/20 game, so we should be able to welcome the first Red Stars players to Chicago at that game. Would be great to show them why Chicago's the best city in the League for team support.

Thx again for everything.

Darrian Chapman, Todd Smith, Doug Hamilton, Dan Parry, Brandon Kitchens - special people who elevated my love of soccer and life. i miss them all.... ...We will be strong for you every game, no matter our numbers, all we ask is you do the same, it is your PRIVILEGE to wear the colors as it is ours, it is our HONOR to stand behind you, as it should be yours to play for us. If you leave it all out on the field every game nothing can stop us, no matter who we play make 11 into 1, make us proud, and let Chicago be known for all time.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is a sneak peak at the first supporter's scarf for the Chicago Red Stars. A limited number of these scarves will be made for sale during the preseason. Proceeds from this scarf will go to the purchasing of the Inaugural Season Scarf and a donation to a club charity. Pricing and pre-order will follow shortly, and we are working with the manufacturer to have these scarves available for distribution at the Sept. 20 USWNT vs. Ireland match at Toyota Park.

It was intentional. To quote the designer, "the symbology should grow in an organic manner amongst the fans." Much like the early Fire scarves, the simplicity of this scarf will allow the tenor to be set from the group and not from a select few.

On the topic, the group is looking for constructive suggestions for a proper name. Red Star Supporters is a catchall for the time being, but ultimately, we hope to have a more appropriate name for this group. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate a PM.

Thanks,
Omar Shaker

That's what makes the scarf look good, not bad.
