From suntimes quick hits column

"• • Exciting news about the Fire. Not so much about the team advancing to the Eastern Conference finals Thursday against Columbus, but rather about the team going to have cheerleaders next season. It's about time. Well, and about shaking things up."

WTF?

What?? I haven't told anyone about my plot to become a Fire cheerleader and take over the world! Where did they get that info?

Really, though?! That's just silly.

So racism is bad, but sexism is not?

Plus, they will never be better than Nueva Chicago's cheerleaders. So whatever.
"Dave Checketts and SCP Worldwide partners Dean Howes, Kenneth Munoz, Michael McCarthy and Chris Bevilacqua, chose Real Salt Lake for the team's name because they desired to associate the team with a successful soccer club, and "Fire" was already taken."

Columbus doesn't have cheerleaders. They have streetwalkers who all wear the same clothes.

If this has any truth to it, and I think it does, it is just another example of people in our front office "not getting it".

It's hard to see cheerleaders through smoke bombs.

It's not sexist, its not getting the culture. I have never been a fan of cheerleaders, I suppose they have their place, just not at TP.

I dunno, Argentina is pretty sexist.
Maybe I should have been clearer.

Anyway, I don't mind cheerleaders in say High School or College games. Since whatever, they're students and now they do all those fancy flips that has someone in a neckbrace each year. Whatever.

But nothing is less dignified than cheerleaders in their late 20s/30s at a pro game. Ugh...this has disaster written all over it. Where they going to put them?

Not by section 8, we'd heckle them on general principle. they can't be over by the stage since thats the "family" section. The field is full of kids playing soccer at halftime and players have to warm in the one free 20yd sections like guest in their own house.

Disaster!!!

If you have not renewed your season tickets yet, I suggest you do that which I am about to do.

Email your ticket rep, cc the Front office, and, for that matter, anybody else of influence whose email address you can obtain. Inform them that, unless and until this monumentally stupid idea is killed, you will not be renewing your season tickets.

If by interesting, you mean silly and unecessary.

I'd really like the have the gentleman who made this decision (and I know who it probably was) to explain what exactly it is they bring to the table to the fans' faces. What do they add that's missing from game days?

Is there a grain of sexism at all in a front office that hires models to pose as fans of the team, and pull corporate muckity mucks around in a RICKSHAW?!

When are tryouts? I think I'd do pretty well as a Fire CheerLeader.
