Whether you knew him well or not, you will probably have seen Al and his family, wife Vivian and daughters Nicole and Allison, many times at games or at Section 8 social events, including last week's AGM. He was a true family man, and he brought up his children to be part of the soccer community here: both avid players, and fixtures at Fire and Red Stars games with their parents. I know that Al's warmth and generosity touched many of you.
On a personal note, I will remember Al particularly dearly for welcoming me into his home and kindly allowing me to join his family for a lovely Thanksgiving dinner two years ago. His company and conversation will be missed greatly, as there were few times more relaxing than sharing a good beer (it was always good beer with Al) with him and talking about the Fire, as our conversation always inevitably returned to. I remember that we never could agree on the merits of Bakary Soumare, but he was always good natured and jovial about it -- a reflection of his way with people and with life.
The services are tomorrow and Thursday. For the details, please see the obituary in today's Tribune.
