The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which "unskilled people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it." The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average.

In a weird sort of lawyer-y way, I can see the Clippers have a point. If he's using their name and trademark, and god forbid had some event where injury or other potentially liable situation occurred, you know they'd be named in a lawsuit. Plus he's making money selling himself using their name. It's idiotic. Only the Clippers could fuck up something so positive as Clipper Darrell.
That being said, there had to have been a more delicate way to handle. The clippers statement seemed somewhat "unforgiving":
We hold all of our fans in the highest esteem and we have been patient and generous with Mr. Bailey. He has not returned our support in an honorable way. He is not actually a fan of the Clippers, but a fan of what he can make off of the Clippers. We are no longer interested in that kind of association with him, and that is why we accepted his offer to remove our team name from his stage name.”

This is so stupid. Mark Cuban offered him a salaried position to do for the Mavs what he does for the Clippers. He should take it. Go get paid by a team that actually cares about their employees and fans.

He would get NO respect from anyone if he took that position. He has and always will be Clipper Darrell

I agree. So what if Clipper Darrell was selling "Clipper Darrell" merch. It's a dumb move by the Clips. It's idiotic. Only the Clippers could fuck up something so positive as Clipper Darrell.
I did see Clipper Darrell in one of those side bars they have at Staples during a game a few seasons ago. I asked him why he wasn't watching the game and he said they were mad at him for some reason and kicked him out of his seat. I bought him a drink.
