First off, thanks to the capos. You guys rock and I sincerely appreciate what you do week in and week out. Without you we'd just be a bunch of drunks occasionally clapping and throwing feces. SIDEBAR: we should throw more feces.

That said, I hate the fucking megaphone. Its annoying and I'm pretty sure we've lost most of the games in which it has been busted out (this past weekend aside). I understand its value in getting a chant started (especially if the game/ LARS is sold out), but I implore you to put it down and trust us to have your back for the rest of the song. It also prevents chants from starting organically from 137/138, because you can't hear us over the distorted sound of your own voices.

I'm fairly confident that I'm not the only that feels this way - but I suppose we'll find out in this thread.

I could hear some LARS wannabes in 139 saying to each other after it came out "why do they keep yelling at us?"

That said, i think it could do some good in the back where participation is less apparent to help to tie the section together. Now that we actually DO have Capo's this will work.

Actually the drum should move more to the middle of the section as well for the same reason.
The broader and less pinpointed the sounds LARS makes, the louder it will be.

I agree with the both of you's, but we haven't lost a game all season at home. Just wanted to say that because it feels good.

Couple of things:

1. On any given night now, there's 300-400 LARS. On good nights, we have more. On great nights... I don't even want to think about next Sunday. We need the damn thing. But
2. I agree, the damn thing is meant to start chants - not sing to you (or shout to you). This is duly noted.
3. I'm pretty sure we can't aim the thing AT the field/players so using it in the back toward the front is a no/go... maybe we can use it halfway up toward the back BUT...
4. People bitch about having the drum next to them. Thus the drum has taken a home in the front, it works. Ideal? No. But maybe we should consider having halfway-up capos. 1 drumming, 1 megaphoning. I'm sure people would bitch about both. But most importantly...

5. We'll try to work on Megaphone ettiquette for Sunday, but this whole discussion is better suited for the off-season. We're not gonna change what we've been doing all season on the last day of the year and "see what happens"

Per usual, your input is considered and appreciated

That would be SO MUCH FUN.

Agreed, right before the fucking MLS Cup is not the right time to start this whole conversation.

Although 138 was pretty dead for a lot of the time last game. I almost took a picture of Ed screaming at a bunch of people in the first 5 rows staring at him.

I hope for the Cup everybody is fucking cheering 1000%.

4. People bitch about having the drum next to them.

Welcome to LARS... bitching about everything since 2001

I remember when I went to Philly for the friendly match pre-WC (I believe against Turkey), they tried to have multiple capos spread out (in a group about 10xs our size)... it worked but you still get the delayed effect. This was the purpose of having the megaphone, was so everyone (including other sections and on the top) could hopefully all chant at kinda the same time.

I also agree with having the drum in the middle. And if you don't like it:
a) Bring/wear earplugs like I have
b) move to the very bottom/top
c) just accept it and move on!

That's the bottom line, if you don't like the drum, the megaphone or the guy in front of you waiving a flag. There are plenty of spots around 137/8 that you can re situate yourself in.

The analog megaphone was a good compromise when we couldn't get the electric. It broadcasts without being abrasive.

Yeah, you do look like a cheerleader, but it's not gestapo.

I agree.

The problem with our megaphones (I was a cheerleader for so many years I've got a bionic hip now):

1. The analog one is too long - that one is designed for chanting to the crowd FROM THE FIELD - not to people right in front of you. We really need the tiny, shorter, wider ones.
2. The electric one is too distorting. It's annoying, and most people can't make out what you're saying.
3. When you try to reach the entire section - sweeping from left to right and back - people only catch a fraction of what you're saying because of directional sound physics.
TL:DR - It's actually BETTER when the megaphones aren't used at all. Capos - warm up your voice before the game, support from your diaphram (yell from your chest instead of your throat), stay in your lower registers and your voice will LAST LONGER.

I also think the drums should stay in the front. It's easier to stay with the Capo when you're next to them. People are also used to them being there - they're planning on it, no one wants a surprise drum when they go in 2 hours early to claim their seat tomorrow.

MOST people follow the capos and the front of the section VISUALLY, not by sound. Light travels faster than sound, and everyone is facing the field anyway.

As long as the front of the section is doing the ARM THING and we can SEE what the Capo is saying - the rest of us (and our end of the stadium, and by extention - ALL OF THE HDC) can follow along and stay pretty much together.

PLEASE GO LONGER ON THE CHANTS FOR THE FINAL. And KEEP THEM SIMPLE. The ENTIRE STADIUM (except for the Hooter fans) WANT TO CHEER WITH US - it just takes several times through for everyone to get going. The more we can do the simple ones like:
LA clap clap clap GALAXY

or

LA GALAXY LA GALAXY
LA LA
OOOOOOH OOOOOOOH

I don't care how boring this gets - they need to be done OFTEN, and LONG - not only 3 times but for FIVE MINUTES so the ENTIRE STADIUM can get in on it.

People WANT TO CHANT. They want to chant WITH US. They're REALLY GOING TO WANT TO SUNDAY. Let's GIVE THEM THE CHANCE.
Zidane, veuillez venir le jeu pour la Galaxy!

Ná glac pioc comhairle gan comhairle ban.

I'll trying being nicer, if you try being smarter.
