KDOC is in HD. The thing is they show a lot of old shows that aren't HD friendly. Newer shows, and live sports are shown in HD.

I hope you're right...the DirecTV schedule has the show before it listed in HD but the game only says live...no HD

Hmmmm. Los Quackers de Anaheim are usually if not always in HD on KDOC these days. I would hope they could haul their one set of HD cameras all the way to Carson.

Word on the street is Roggo doing play by play, and Cobi doing color.

I seem to remember them doing some CCL away matches on FSC together last year. Roggo is always better on play by play, and Cobi, while not having a real "style" yet for lack of a better word, had some pretty smart analysis.

I stand by my previous opinion that as long Rogondino is nowhere near Jim Watson he's pretty good. Not top class by any means but I would find Roggo and Cobi a vast improvement.

Is Cobi still with Cosmos Redux?

OFFICIALLY yes.
Given that (according to his FB) he's always in Los Angeles I'm sure he could be persuaded to do it.

KDOC doesn't do the video. The channel that owns the rights does the video and KDOC shows it. That's why they don't bid on primary contracts only secondary ones.

No More Jim Fucking Watson!

Galaxy legend Cobi Jones will be in the broadcast booth for the 2012 season, serving as analyst on KDOC/Channel 56's coverage of the reigning Major League Soccer champions.

Jones, a National Soccer Hall of Fame midfielder who spent 12 seasons as a player and two-plus years as an assistant coach with the team, will partner Mark Rogondino on the club's local English-language broadcasts.

Jones, 41, a former UCLA star from Westlake Village, holds the U.S. record for international caps, making 164 international appearances and playing in the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cups. He played in 306 regular-season and 45 MLS playoff games for L.A., scoring 76 goals with 104 assists in league action and playing prominent roles in five Galaxy championships, including the 2002 and 2005 MLS Cup triumphs. He also played in 14 CONCACAF games, scoring twice.

KDOC will televise 18 Galaxy games before Time Warner Cable's new regional sports network launches in October.

Rogondino is in his seventh year on Galaxy broadcasts and his first in a play-by-play role.

If there was one bright spot last night, I was pleased with the coverage by the new broadcast team. Like I said before, getting Rogondino as far away from Watson as possible would be a good thing. He and Cobi seem to work well together. The sideline candy was polished as well and not just a pretty face.

The video presentation also looked better and I thought the ambient sound was much better than it was on FSW as well. There was no over-mic'd supporters yet chants and signing came thru nicely. FSW always had the sound pumped way up on the north side so the "LA" always sounded way louder that the "GALAXY".

Nice graphics, too. I'm assuming this is what we'll see from the Time Warner Sports channel. If so, good stuff.
