FACT!

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Something doesn't smell right in that story... they didn't pay hosting bill and decide to shutdown the site they was doing for years. Hmmm yea ok...

How much is a monthly hosting bill?

For the site they run, i would not pay more then $100/month. And that is a huge overkill. Considering they are running wordpress, it could be done for around $20.

That makes their claim of financial plight less plausible.

Yup. I think the real explanation is hidden at the bottom of that message on the site. They state that MLSsoccer.com launched Rumors section recently... Too much of competition i guess.

Could be that their server deal was pretty shitty and had limits on their bandwidth and charged them for the extra traffic. Even if it was an extra $100 a month maybe the dude cant afford forking out $100 extra to his bills to pay for your amusement every month. That and the thought of redesigning and starting that site from scratch(along with some new competition) probably did them in. Even though it seems "easy" to you its hours of work to someone else. And if they have a fulltime job already, and maybe a family you dont have hours to just work on something.

Perhaps. But, then, why all the whining about losing their archives? If they knew that they couldn't pay the bills, back-up the system and have something to take into oblivion with them.

Because if you saw the graph they posted, there was a sharp rise in users. It wasnt like they knew 3 months in advace that this will happen. Either ways Im just playing devils advocate here cause I dont know any details.

So, more users was a bad thing!

Could be. It isnt the first site to have this happen to. If the person running it doesnt know how to fully take advantage of those users or isnt set up properly it can just shut a site down forever. It has happened before.
