We only have 20 or 21 players signed. It's clear we are going to sign a half dozen more players by the start of the sign. Definitely going to be a couple forward (Arteaga / Chirgadze / Angulo?) and a midfielder (Barklage), but that still means someone we don't know will be signed. Maybe two guys.
I also think Agudelo could see some time on the wing. Cooper potentially as well... though I think it's possible we see a Cooper / Henry up top to start the season. Cooper and Richards seem to have some good chemistry going this preseason. And Henry is a guaranteed starter.
Back to the original discussion, I think Meara gets the start opening day. Just a general sense I get from the different quotes and stories surrounding this team. And if he is a Pickens level talent, that would be a nice find at 30 or so in the draft. Fringe national team player. Top 6 goalkeeper in MLS and has been near the top of the GAA charts the last few seasons.

Huh?Let's assume a worst case scenario, all the guys who are injury prone are out. Who's left?
---Cooper-------------------Agudelo---
-Lindpere-Marquez-Palsson-Richards-
-Miller----Keel----Holgersson----Solli-
--------------Meara/Vuolo--------------

Huh?
Maybe I didn't consider him as injury prone as Henry, Rodgers, and Tainio.

Soccer is a game about a group of people working together to protect and obtain a common goal.
Baseball is a game with a bunch of babies just trying to run "home" and be "safe"

Then again, maybe Soler doesn't feel he's under any pressure to win this year.

I find it hard to believe, with all management has riding on this season, that they'd start the year without a veteran goalkeeper, at least in a backup role. It's too important a position.

maybe no veterans want to come here

Gotta love the "can't-win" attitude on these boards. Half the people bashing them for not getting a proven keeper, the other half accusing them of blocking young Americand from getting a chance...."It's still three or four weeks to the first league game," assistant coach Jan Halvor Halvorsen said at Montclair State University on Friday. "It is not settled yet with the goalie situation. The young ones, both have done quite well in the camp, the first camp. The first goalkeeping situation is not yet 100 percent settled yet. We'll see what will happen."

Personally I'm OK with that, as long as they choose one of Vuolo and Meara and play him long enough to have a chance to build some confidence (8-10 games without benching even if the chosen #1 makes a few mistakes). If he still sucks go to the other guy, and if that one sucks you're most of the way to June and you grab someone off another league's chopping block. NOT a DP though.

By half, obviously I meant one guy, and maybe the 4 others who voted "no, its terrible." Don't get all math nit-picky on me.
