Thanks for posting this, although I'm not sure how many people were looking to see last night's highlights.
Anyway, a dude on facebook is saying "Beckham and Sarvas got into a fist fight at halftime, forcing Bruce to take them out". It's on the internet, so it's clearly true.

Becks got into a shouting match with Sean Franklin and Marcelo Sarvas while walking off at half-time during their 3-1 home defeat to New England.
Neither Beckham nor Brazilian Sarvas appeared in the second half.
Manager Bruce Arena insisted it was a tactical move. He said: "It was purely a coach's decision. We needed to make a change in midfield.
"I'm sure David's not pleased about it but that's not the issue. The issue was that 11 players from New England soundly outplayed 11 players from the Galaxy.
"I couldn't change 11 players and that's what I told the team at half-time. If I had 11 substitutions, I'd have considered that."
Sources close to Becks, 36, insisted he missed the second half because of a hamstring injury.
So what about changing the midfield did Bruce have in mind, that seemed to help the team go from being outscored 0-2 in the first half to 1-1 in the second?
I think that without the luxury of Omar, our midfield needs to play differently than it was accustomed to with him in there. In other words, you can't blame AJ for not being MLS Defender of the Year, and you can't blame Boyens for not being MLS Defender of the Year. And you can't allow your midfield to rely on AJ and Boyens the same way they relied on Omar. If you do, this is what happens.
So we need midfielders in the game who are capable and willing to play this way no matter what their name is. I think Bruce acknowledged this with his substitutions, as well as his decision to name a new Vice Captain.
Yes, the backline needs improvement. Because of this fact, the midfield MUST adapt to a style of play that helps the backline rather than exposes it.

Which brings us back to "WTF has Bruce been thinking at least up until halftime last night?" And it sounds like things only changed at halftime because the whatever-it-was between La Prima Donna and Sarvas and/or Franklin forced his hand.I think that without the luxury of Omar, our midfield needs to play differently than it was accustomed to with him in there. In other words, you can't blame AJ for not being MLS Defender of the Year, and you can't blame Boyens for not being MLS Defender of the Year. Right?Which brings us back to "WTF has Bruce been thinking at least up until halftime last night?"
Although, I do believe that a Vegas trip and scoring more goals would generate some good vibes for this team.

1. having watched the game on replay I do see what you're getting at about the midfield... the first goal was on the backline but the second was clearly on the midfield and the stats don't lie, none of the midfield, junhino included were bothered to defend...but second half was better? read on...
2. thinking the second half was better than the first is taken completely out of context... the second half team was down 3-0 and NE had long lost interest in attacking even when the third goal hit (to show how bad that unit was) AND the goal was scored long after NE lost interest in any attack. 2-0 to 1-1 sounds good if you're sitting at home... at the stadium it was obvious this team wasn't any better with stephens and magee in at the half. in fact look at the opta stats board...magee and stevens defended even less than junhino and your beckham... no improvement. even with a less interested revolution.
3. bruce didn't acknowledge anything with his substitutions... the stats clearly showed the team was just as bad with the subs as they were in. if you want stephens/magee in over sarvas/beckham you want to be a mediocre MLS team. and clearly if beckham hadn't kicked a shoe at sarvas at halftime arena wouldn't have even considered the move. overall, to say we were better at the end is a lie.
4. lastly, still can't say this is all on the midfield... I will admit it's not all the backline either... And I will admit that I saw points where the midfield should've helped and didn't... but why exactly? you say the midfield needs to now adapt to an inferior backline....i say we need a better centerback ... your way isn't any better than mine. so we start playing a defensive shield ... so what... last year we won with the system we're trying to play now, omar of course being key... Yes, i understand that with omar out the tactics must change... but i'd rather see the tactics stay the same and have a better backline who doesn't need the midfield to bail it out all the time. those types of teams don't win championships. my opinion at least
EDIT: Fredo/Josh... what i'll also concede is that at this point you have to work with what you have... i say we need a better center back..but the truth is we don't have that option....so maybe you two are right... the midfield must adapt...unfortunately i feel that will lead to a team that will compete to finish mid table and exit first round of playoffs.. course that's better than last night's performance...so you two could be completely in the right. I still say stick with the system that worked and go get a new centerback tandem... but my solution is much more unlikely.
anyway, if the midfield does adapt.... i'd rather have beckham/sarvas fight each other and then adapt than have stephens in there pulling the strings... you're just asking to win as much as chivas usa at that point.

Dunivant and Franklin were terrible. AJ and Boyens are on different planets.
The midfield did nothing to slow down the attack. New England just moved through the midfield. Buddle and Keane constantly had to drop into midfield to get the ball.
This is bigger than just losing Omar. The team is not coming together. I think the Vegas bender suggestion may be the best idea right now. The team has to come together as a group, not just 11 individuals that are running around on the field together.

It looked to me like the team was more dangerous attacking and that less pressure was on the backs/Saunders in the second half. Bruce's changes were positive ones.
3. bruce didn't acknowledge anything with his substitutions... the stats clearly showed the team was just as bad with the subs as they were in. if you want stephens/magee in over sarvas/beckham you want to be a mediocre MLS team. and clearly if beckham hadn't kicked a shoe at sarvas at halftime arena wouldn't have even considered the move. overall, to say we were better at the end is a lie.
Well, he said that the midfield needed to change. He wanted to sub all 11, but given 2, he chose Beckham and Sarvas. Why do you think they were subbed?
4. lastly, still can't say this is all on the midfield... I will admit it's not all the backline either... Nobody said it's all on the midfield. Replacing Omar with Boyens obviosly damages the backline significantly, that is a given. Given that, the backline will continue to fail until the midfield plays to help it, not expose it. I'd love a better centerback, so would Bruce. Your solution requires yet another new face to this team that will somehow play so well that the midfield can continue to play like Omar is there. Who is this mysterious CB that will do the same job as the MLS Defender of the Year?
EDIT: Fredo/Josh... what i'll also concede is that at this point you have to work with what you have... i say we need a better center back..but the truth is we don't have that option....so maybe you two are right... the midfield must adapt...unfortunately i feel that will lead to a team that will compete to finish mid table and exit first round of playoffs.. course that's better than last night's performance...so you two could be completely in the right. Your solution is no solution. Again, what magical CB is going to step in and be Omar?
anyway, if the midfield does adapt.... i'd rather have beckham/sarvas fight each other and then adapt than have stephens in there pulling the strings... you're just asking to win as much as chivas usa at that point.
I'm not worried about the name on the jersey. Whoever is capable of playing the way the team needs them too is who needs to be in there. I'm not sure Beckham is able/willing at this point. Bruce took his band and benched him. For the G's sake I hope he can still contribute. That goes for everyone on the team, like Keane said.

Off season loans are a contributing factor. That's obvious.
Rolling the dice on the hope that the combination of Boyens-Meyer-Leonardo would somehow equal Omar has proven to be an epic fail.
Trading Ricketts was not a good move.
I've said the once and I'll say it again... AJ is a good central defender. He is not a great one and he is trying to do too much out there. The guy has obvious limitations, but he is just doing what is being asked of him by the coach.
Having Sarvas, Beckham, and Cardozo in the midfield together was probably the stupidest thing I've seen Bruce try. It shouldn't be a surprise why New England was able to waltz through the midfield without so much as harsh word being yelled at them.
The roster has changed, but the approach and tactics have not.
It's going to get worse before it gets better.
The team has more forwards on the roster than defenders at this point.
The bad soccer vibes will persist it seems...
If you're not creepin', you're not trying...

I don't know about the Ricketts trade, did you see his display against NYRB? Stellar...
Watch the highlights. Watch the first goal. You'll see Cardozo jog, yes, jog half assed at the Revs player who sent in the cross. No pressure. It was like a training session for the Revs player to lift his head and measure a perfect ball. Our backline could be the best ever and we will get beat every week with no pressure on the ball. Dunivant was smoking something as well but you can't let the other team size up a perfect ball and play it in uncontested.
Also, how many times did you see the Revs running freely through our midfield at our defense? Nobody in the middle was tracking back at all. I saw Juninho watch guys run by him into the box without tracking back.
Look at it this way. Omar cleaned up a lot of crap last year. Either he's a top notch organizer and the other teams didn't have as many chances or we were somewhat blinded by his ability to clean up a lot of messes.
