Catwoman getting on the bike, best part of the whole movie.

Ha! Agree.
She's no Julie Newmar or Eartha Kitt but good lord did she look good on that bike.

Not at all. That "rule" is used to express the fact that every new project is a blank canvas to be painted the way you want. That you don't have to do anything based on anyone else's rules. Obviously if someone else is paying you to do it you have to do it their way or by their guidelines, but in general the first rule of filmmaking, is that there are no rules. You do what you want, because it's your artwork, be it seen by the world or just yourself, you decide what goes into to it and how it is done.

Ok, but that isn't the movie we're talking about, this isn't some abstract art school project of the director's.

The rule of show don't tell means show us more of Talia/Miranda so that we can form our own connection to her as viewers, don't rely on other characters telling us about her, it's less effective.

Sure, you don't have to follow that rule, but the story suffers as a result.

I stopped posting when y'all got all serious and shit and woulda been all "Oh dude, I don't wanna see pictures of cats in bread and shit" but y'all went all "more like Dark knight premise is all weak and shit"?

Edit: when is this thread going to boil down to the inevitable Nazi-comparison? First one wins the Internet?

Well, Bane's customized leather jacket, while super spiffy, did seem military-esque and he does come off like a dictator when he makes his speech in front of the prison and at the Steeler's game. Take back the city or something along those lines, didn't Hitler say the exact same thing to all those Germans back in the way back?

Again, I'll point out, that it seemed the connection was meant to be made with Selina not Miranda. I'm not sure how many times I can keep saying this, since Isaac's post on FB has gone the same way. There was a reason they showed her as a sympathetic character trying to get the clean slate program, why they made her crack jokes, and made her act like Batman, to draw the parallels and make you want him to end up with her.

Miranda's betrayal wasn't supposed to be an "Oh my God, I loved you, and you betrayed me! You rotten bitch." moment it was a "You didn't think I'd risk losing the battle for Gotham's soul...in a fistfight with you? No. You need an ace in the hole." moment.

Whatever it was supposed to be, it misfired. Didn't ruin the movie or anything, just made it an 8 instead of a 10. Her character had a lot more potential.

Carlos, I did figure out how Batman survived being inside the Bat when it exloded in a nuclear mushroom.

Yes, they didn't show the figurative escape hatch Batman used to get out of The Bat. If you know who Batman is and what he does, it's not hard to believe he did something like vanish right in front of you without you knowing where he went. In fact, one of the best lines in the film calls out that he does that to people:
"So that's what that feels like..."

He hooked up the bomb, pulled up vertically, then as he got going jumped out.

So he hit you in the cranium a couple times with autopilot discussions between BWayne and Fox, and he foreshadowed the principle of dramatic disappearance. He didn't whisper in our ears "pssst! hey! He's going to escape..." but he gave us all the tools needed to understand it.

Also, the Miranda relationship had a 007/Bond Girl feel to it. In those films, very often the girl and her role is perfunctory and a little bit unbelievable if I dare besmirch the Queen's bodyguard's series a bit. On the other hand, it was easy for me to pencil her in like a Bond girl at first. I even thought, "Wayne's gonna do it with her" the moment I saw her. I didn't pick up on her being Talia until the knife got stuck in Batman's back, but that's because I am really good at suspending disbelief (I attribute that to decades of watching Star Trek), and didn't give a shit about reading spoilers before it came out. It seems like it should have been obvious to any real fan that Talia would be in the last chapter because the whole series is the R'as Al Ghul tale.

‘Batman & Robin’ Director Joel Schumacher says Nolan “Ruined Batman”

'Batman & Robin' director Joel Schumacher is reportedly furious with Christopher Nolan, saying the Dark Knight Rises auteur “ruined Batman.”

One of Schumacher’s chief complaints centers on the film’s setting and composition. “I don’t even recognize the Gotham I knew,” Schumacher said. “Everything is gray and black, even the villains. Everyone knows bad guys wear neon green and purple!”

“Ideally,” he added, “a Batman film should look like a gay porno made with Lite Brites.”

Schumacher also said he had a hard time determining who the villains were. “The audience needs you to use puns to remind them who the bad guy is. Would it have killed [Nolan] to add a ‘This guy’s a Bane in the neck’ or ‘He’s not Ra’s Al-Ghuling around?’”

Schumacher was able to at least glimpse a silver lining, saying, “There’s one thing I took from my Batmans that I’ll never give back…and that’s Tommy Lee Jones’s dignity.”

Preface: I know next to nothing about the superhero genre. Don't kill me.

I finally caught up with the world and saw TDKR last night. I enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as The Dark Knight. Some of my little quips:

a) It wasn't dark enough. In TDK Gotham was scary and felt evil. In this one, Gotham was much less daunting. It almost felt like I was watching an episode of CSI:NY. Yeah, I guess you could say "It was peace time in Gotham!", but I liked how in TDK it felt like Gotham needed Batman. The whole final battle scene wasn't my favorite. I don't think Batman and his "army" should be running straight at the enemy and starting a LOTR style battle. Compare that to the final battle scene in TDK and it doesn't hold a candle.

b) The characters this movie tried to develop weren't nearly as interesting as the ones developed in the Dark Knight. In TDK, we got to see the development of The Joker, Two-Face, and Batman (the idea of, the morality of, ect). In this one, they focused on the developments of Bruce Wayne (not his superhero side), Catwoman, and Blake. Although I thought Catwoman's development was fantastic (-Picks up the picture- "This house belonged to a family"), the other two weren't as dark and compelling as watching The Joker's psychotic plan unfurl or Two-Face's plunge into madness. The villains are what make superhero movies special, and Bane had nothing to him. People were afraid of the bomb, not of him.

Overall, I missed Heath Ledger in this movie. I'd say the re-watch value isn't as high as the second one, but still enjoyable.

I walked out of the theatre wanting to marry Catwoman. That about sums it up.
