Galaxy vs. Isidro Metapán, Aug. 23 (R)

Whatever. Juninho was great from the first whistle. When he is on top of his game, he follows Beckham into attacking sets and still has time to get back. After his tweets last night ("the backflips were a gift for you my LA Galaxy fans who came") I wouldn't be surprised if he is strongly considering a full move here. Stay here Juni, we love you more than Sao Paulo does.
It was probably overshadowed by the kookiness that followed, but Beckham's delivery on the second goal was absolutely sublime. Sure IM was getting bossed in the air and couldn't cover the far post, but that was pinpoint accuracy and proves the old man still has it when he wants to have it. Reminded me of his cross to BAMF in the playoff game vs RBNY last fall.
You gotta give Isidro quite a bit of credit, they certainly know how to hit on the break. I'm intrigued to see how this match turns out in October down there. Time to focus on shitting all over Dallas.

Was it Stephens or Beckham who got the yellow for time wasting? I thought it was David. Good sub though as he was really pissed off and seemed en route to card(s).
We better beat Puerto Rico.

Over on the social media, Isaac is telling us in a world weary way that Mexican refs are good and we just need to adapt.Juninho has officially returned.
CONCACAF refs are worse than MLS refs. This is not news.
El Pescador is good for pre-game, but sucks for post-game.
This tournament is kind of ridiculous...
This tournament is indeed rather silly. But it's a problem all over the soccer world where one country/one vote weights things in favor of the scrub teams.
The U.S. and Mexico have four teams in the tournament. Panama has three and Metapan ("post-modern bread"?) is the top ranked of the trio. They need to bring back the play-in round, and allow two more US/Mex teams into play-in. But yeah, like that's going to happen.
And...
I'm noticing a lot of negativity toward Robbie. But...
- We won a cup with him
- He's going to do what he's going to do
- Shut up, that's why!

Over on the social media, Isaac is telling us in a world weary way that Mexican refs are good and we just need to adapt.
So is it OK to be negative about him? Please advise...
Isaac probably has a point to some degree, but he is all but non-existent in this forum so I cannot elaborate any further...
RE: Keane
Negativity in regards to Mr. Keane and any other player for that matter is often viewed as "unappreciative" behavior by many on these boards.
So the question is are you "appreciative" first and critical second? Or are you just plain negative and unappreciative? Because... "We won the cup last year bro..."
Yeah Robbie's attitude stinks... which is probably why he doesn't stick around very long on the teams he has played for.
In truth, I'll take a crappy personality over no personality any day of the week... "at least he gives a shit" is what I often find myself thinking...
EDIT: What does post-modern bread taste like?

Refereeing was atrocious. For both teams. He held his whistle in his pocket far too many times. He allowed things to get chippy then cracked down hard when it started to go that way. The red card to Keane was ridiculous. If the ref feels he's diving, then fine give him a card. His dissent of that mistake wasn't that bad and wasn't directed at the referee. If the ref feels like there is a bit of dissent, then give him a talking to, and tell him, "Any one thing will now get you sent off. Zip it." By reacting the way he did (showing red to Keane), he eroded the players belief in his ability to control the game. Both teams were saying "WTF" when it happened. And it wasn't just the center ref, the ARs were dreadful in their ability to call offside correctly. There were 4 plays that I can remember where they raised the flag, and players were onside. However, I'm more forgiving for that, as running the line is actually more difficult than running center. If Isaac is defending the job they did, then he is just being a homer for Mexican officials.
The G's defense looked far too disorganized, which was not helped by the midfield. Post modern bread had too much time on the wings that allowed them to send dangerous balls into the box. The G's midfield was tucked into the center too much. I don't know if that is due to the line-up of who played, or if it was strategy, but the outside backs needed more support to slow down the attack against them. Luckily the G's were able to possess the ball more, which reduced the number of attacks from the Metapan. Against stronger possession teams, that tactic will lose games. The Colonel came up big yesterday.
Lastly, the G's need to finish their chances when they have them. Allowing teams to stick around can costs them the game. Up until the final whistle blew, I wasn't 100% sure the G's were going to give away 2 points and settle for a draw. Play like this is the SEC and run the score up. Put the game so far out of reach it is ridiculous.

Also, I must retract what I thought about Eliseo Quintanilla. I confused him with Marvin Quijano. Eliseo never played for LA. He was with DC. I'm losing my encyclopedic knowledge of the 90's Galaxy.

In the calendar year of 2012, which includes the Clausura 2012 and the handful of matches in the Apertura of the reformatted Liga MX, Peńaloza has officiated 13 league games and issued 53 cautions and 11 ejections. That makes 4.08 yellow cards per game and .85 red cards per game in 2012. While the 4 yellows is about average across the board, averaging almost one red card in every game is alarming for a professional referee.

Even for CONCACAF, it should be possible to find better officials than that.

I think he has a "twitchy palm" (don't know what that references, ask any woman that can read or El Mon) and since he can't slap their asses, he gives out red cards instead.I don't think I ever heard of a ref averaging a red card a game over a sustained length of time. Does he have that itchy a trigger finger, or is he that prone to losing control of games?
My highlight of the match was our first actual goal, and the fact that no one knew it was actually a goal until the music started to play!

Metabread's first goal shouldn't have happened. Our defenders (I can't remember who, but I'm thinking AJ and Sarvas or possibly Franklin) successfully stymied a little attack on the wing, and the ball was ours. Unfortunately both our guys looked at each other as if to say "you get it." In the confusion, Metapan's guy casually took the ball into the box and hit the centering pass.
Also, I must retract what I thought about Eliseo Quintanilla. I confused him with Marvin Quijano. Eliseo never played for LA. He was with DC. I'm losing my encyclopedic knowledge of the 90's Galaxy.
I thought Marvin was going to be awesome. Never quite became the MLS impact player that his skill level showed he could be. Still fun to watch though.
