Since this is Supporters Week in MLS, the league has taken some steps to remove the YSA chant during goal kicks to make the game a "little more civilized" for fans especially those with kids during matches. Well, the league and Real Salt Lake has taken things a bit further with an ultimatum to thier supporters... Lose YSA, or else.

Here's the article (written by Zac Wassink of Yahoo! Sports)...

http://sports.yahoo....-135200916.html

Here's the letter posted on the groups Facebook page...

The article does state that SouthWard kids were put on notice by the league, but nothing has taken place. So, I would like to hear your thought on this subject. I'm sure you'll have plenty so... Fire away!!

It seems like another tiny little thing that people will decide to make a gigantic fight out of. MLS because they think somehow that it tarnishes the image of a sport when you can hear Klinsmann spouting German obscenities over every USMNT broadcast, and the fans because they'll see it as something to feel oppressed by.

Anyone who is genuinely offended by their kids hearing the word "asshole" shouldn't be taking their kids to a fucking sporting event.

I don't mind the YSA....but i could go for something a little more clever. Not sure what that is......just YSA gets a bit boring after the hundredth time.

My take on this... Overreacting much?

I've been to a lot of sporting events. I have seen and heard much worse than YSA. If you read the article at first glace you might think that the supporters groups are filled with skinheads and nazi thugs terrorizing casual fans and their kids. It's garbage.

That said, sanitizing the atmosphere just to make causal fans feel safe at MLS matches won't help. In fact, it cheapens the whole affair. You think the league would have better things to do than declare war over a silly little chant.

I'd prefer 'you suck INSERT OPPOSING GOALIE'S NAME' Gets the point across and shows knowledge of the players on the field. Has a nice personnel touch to it as well.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Funniest part about this is that the line crossing of late has come from MLS. Players & coaches have been worse than fans in the last two years. Multiple players & coaches have been suspended for using gay slurs, while fans have been pretty tame- with the exception of one dude in Houston that was quickly shut down.

But, MLS will kill YSA, because they think it's making a principled stand for the betterment of the league. Racism in England, match fixing in Italy, referee bribes in Germany....silly to think that "Asshole" could be anyone's biggest problem. But, think it they do, even if it means an empty home end.
