His speed has been my biggest concern but still more tools for MLS than Allen or Bonomo had.

Also needs to work on finishing

Will never have an easier one!
Still, congrats on his first MLS goal! 👍

I've seen players lift the ball over the crossbar in that situation.

Few things in the sport are more enjoyable than watching a guy lose his shit after scoring his first goal.

White's got a lot to work on overall though, his play before and after the goal didn't inspire a ton of confidence. Kid literally didn't complete a forward pass all game.

He was a lone striker. Who was ahead of him?

You expect to see some combination play with other attacking and wide players.

I see 3 forward passes in that graphic, but like all statistics you have to take them with a grain of salt. Without knowing where his teammates were, how they were moving and where the defenders were (and how they were moving) it is a bit of a stretch to reach the conclusion you do.

Does he need a ton of work and development? Hell yeah. Is this some great revelation? Hardly.

To be honest I feel he played the role he was supposed to, he allowed BWP to rest an entire game. He played with his back to the goal a lot and distributed from there and when opportunity knocked he got his first goal not because it was a hard shot but because he has moved himself appropriately into a scoring position.

I thought he was better at that role than DE7.

The MLSsoccer.com match recap pages have a Chalkboard in the Boxscore section if you scroll down a bit, you can click individual players and stats to see their field map. I just chose White and successful passes and grabbed the screenshot.

For sure on the bolded part, by no means was I dismissing White's potential. Thought it was an area of improvement worth calling out especially since there's a very real chance we'll need the kid to contribute this year, not just over the next several. Its not White's fault ownership fell short in the summer window getting attacking depth, but it does mean that there's some more pressure on his shoulders to produce immediately.

BWP finds teammates further up field every game from the same spot. And not just marginally forward at a 5 degree angle, I'm talking balls towards goal and over some distance.
